GLOVERSVILLE — Due to the collapse of a portion of a downtown building, a section of South Main Street was closed to traffic through July 7.
Gloversville Fire Department Chief Thomas Groff said in a release July 7 that South Main Street from Fulton Street to Washington Street was re-opened to traffic.
“The street was closed as a precaution to allow engineers to assess the safety of the rest of the building, Groff stated. “Sections of the building that were unstable in the rear of the building were removed in accordance with engineers recommendations and the street is now open.”
According to Mayor Dayton King, a portion of the rear section of 16-18 S. Main St. collapsed July 5 around 9:45 a.m. The building was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.
