American spirit and summer tradition can be found all around the Great Sacandaga Lake for the July 4 holiday in the coming days. Boating, sailing, swimming, camping, picnicking, cook-outs, live music  and countless other summer traditions will be found on and near the water beginning on Wednesday, July 4.

Fireworks displays

On Wednesday, July 4, a fireworks display over the Great Sacandaga Lake can been seen from Lanzi’s on the Lake, 1751 State Highway 30 in Mayfield at dusk.

Saturday night, July 7 at 9:30 p.m., the Northville Civic Association will feature fireworks in the village beginning at 9:30 p.m.

Sunday, July 8, fireworks over the Great Sacandaga Lake are featured once again, near the Northville Bridge as Sport Island Pub, 108 Riverside Blvd., Northville puts on their annual display beginning at dusk

Northville Doin’s

The Northville Civic Association has set the dates and times for the famous yearly July celebration “Doin’s” 2012, which takes place in Northville’s Waterfront Park from Thursday, July 5 through Saturday, July 7 featuring crafters, vendors, rides and games.

Beginning with “wristband night” on Thursday, July 5 from 4 to 10 p.m. with live entertainment as DJ Steve West spins the tunes.

Friday, July 6, the fun begins again at 4 p.m. then runs until 10 p.m. Be sure to get in on the karaoke contest which begins at 6:30 p.m.

The Northville Farmers Market, usually held Fridays in the park is relocated on Friday, July 6 the The Red Barn from 2 to 5 p.m.

Saturday, July 7 the excitement in the park spans from noon until 11 p.m. At 7 p.m., music from Crossfire is featured.

The Green Mountain Amusement Company of Lake George has been signed to provide the rides, games and carnival snacks.

Northville parade

The annual Northville July 4 Holiday Parade hosted by the Northville Parade Committee, will take place on Saturday, July 7 beginning on South Main Street at 1 p.m. and winding through the village.

Other happenings

• Thursday, July 5 through Saturday, July 7 is the Northville Public Library’s annual Mammoth Book Sale. The Library, located at 341 South Third St., in Northville will offer a Mammoth Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with tons of books and videos for bargain prices, for the grand three day event.

• Friday, July 6 and Saturday, July 7, the annual Fish House Rummage Sale will be held at the Fish House Community Center, located at 1170 County Highway 110, in North Broadalbin. Items from household to tools., furniture, clothes, toys, books and much more.

• Saturday, July 7, the annual Bake Sale at the First United Methodist Church, 301 South Main St. in Northville will offer fresh, homemade specialities as a fundraiser on the church lawn.

• Saturday, July 7, a book signing with Russell Dunn and Barbara Delaney, authors of ADK Trails with Tales, ADK Waterfall Guide, Adventures around the GSL, and introducing their new Release: Kayakers Guide To The Lake George - Sacandaga Region.  Barbara will be releasing her new book: Finding Griffin.

• Saturday, July 7, SVAN Entertainment in Hope will present their first summer concert featuring Patti Casey, taking place at the Hope Pavilion, located just off of State Highway 30 in Hope from 6 to 8 p.m.

The Sacandaga Valley Arts Network and the Town of Hope present the concert at the Hope Pavilion with Patti Casey known as “Sweetest voice and some of the finest songwriting to come out of Vermont in the last 25 years” - Vermont Public Radio.

A native of Vermont whose great-grandparents emigrated from Ireland (her dad still has an accent despite being born on American soil), she has long been driven by a deep sense of tradition. She is a prolific songwriter and has perfected her own New England-flavored bluegrassy style, one that shines equally with welcome, familiar sounds as well as undeniable originality.

Food will be available from the Sacandaga Task Force for Senior Living. There will be a free will donation taken. (Suggested donation $5/person.)

• Sunday, July 8 and Monday, July 9, look for the Eagle Mills Gem Blitz at the Eagle Mills Cider Co. and Family Fun Park, 383 County Rd. 138 (off Route 29) Broadalbin.
