JOHNSTOWN — The parents of Christian Joseph Rohr, 25, of Albany, acknowledged his death in a statement released Monday.
According to the release, Christian’s body was recovered Saturday from the Hudson River and identified at the Rensselaer Medical Examiner’s office after he went missing while hiking at the Poestenkill Gorge in Troy on Feb. 25.
“We lost Christian on … a beautiful spring-like day, when he was hiking and fell into the Poestenkill River Gorge area,” the release stated. “Christian could always be found outside in all weather conditions. He loved hiking in the Adirondacks, downhill skiing, ice hockey and skateboarding.”
Christian, a 2010 graduate of Niskayuna High School, is the son of the Rev. Laurie Garramone and Donald Rohr, Jr., of Johnstown. He is the brother of Alex Rohr. He was employed by The Ayco Company in Latham, and worked for several years for Play It Again Sports also in Latham.
Christian graduated from University at Albany in 2015 with a business degree and was on the dean’s list. He also received an associate’s degree in business administration from Hudson Valley Community College in 2013, graduating with honors.
“As we have sorted through Christian’s belongings, we have been struck by his honest and uncomplicated life,” the release stated. “Playful pictures with friends and family, a love for the outdoors, and for skiing and hiking. A sincere desire to do do good things in the world. … He was joyful and made people laugh easily and he had a degree of generosity that warmed our heats. … Our lives are forever changed by this loss.”
