Sarah Martelle

Sarah Martelle, Johnstown High School graduate, was awarded the AAUW Eleanor Reed Memorial Scholarship by the Amsterdam-Gloversville-Johnstown Branch of the American Association of University Women.
Martelle will be attending the State University of New York at Brockport to pursue a nursing career.
The one-time $1,000 award was presented in memory of Eleanor Reed, first president of the local AAUW branch which was chartered in 1967. The funds for the award were donated to AAUW on behalf of the family of Reed with the request that the scholarship be given to a female student who exhibits leadership and is active in the community.
Martelle hopes to study abroad and possibly volunteer to help others in foreign countries.
She recently received the Fulton County Youth Bureau’s Service Award.
Martelle has spent eight years assisting her family with the NOAH meals program, planning, serving and when old enough cooking meals. Her school leadership included serving as Class Vice President and co-captain of the tennis team. In addition, she was a member of the JHS Drama Club, the International Club and the National Honor Society. She participated in the New Visions program at Nathan Littauer Hospital focusing on her interest in studying nursing.
