The entire village of Mayfield is back under a boil water advisory today. Mayfield Mayor Jamie Ward made public the announcement just before noon today.
A water sample taken near the recently repaired and cleaned proved to not be clear.
Erring on the side of caution, the water advisory was reissued for the entire village. The water supply from the water tower is contained and shut off from the rest of the water system. The village will be testing the water supply from both the contained water tower site, and well as the regular village water.
Two samples taken 24 hours apart must prove to be clear according to the NYS Department o Health.
“Thank you for you patience during this issue, this truly pains me to continue to put the residents of Mayfield through these inconveniences, but we must always err on the side of caution” said Mayor Ward.
Two water tankers will be brought into Mayfield by 5 p.m. today with fresh drinking water for the residents. One will be located at the Adirondack Gateway Mobil Mart on State Highway 30 in Mayfield, the other will be located at the Mayfield Fireman’s Association Fairgrounds for use of the villages 37th annual Bannertown Fair.
Ward said the tower has already been chlorinated, and the retesting of the water will continue this weekend.
“If all samples come back clear, we may be able to lift the boil water advisory by Sunday” said Ward.
