Ladd, Braves open with win over B-P
By MICHAEL KELLY
For the Express
FONDA — With some help from their fellow Fonda-Fultonville Braves, the backcourt duo of Jarett Ladd and Charles Parslow led F-F to an opening night non-league 63-53 victory against the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots.
For the game, Ladd had 18 points and Parslow had 13 points, five assists and three steals.
“We kind of relaxed a bit there,” said B-P head coach Tucker Gifford. “We softened up a bit and, when we did, they hit [several] 3-pointers.”
B-P’s (0-1) R.J. Pingitore led all scorers with 22 points. But the senior’s night was marred by a slow start; Pingitore missed nine of his first 12 shots, later heating up to finish 8-of-18.
The Patriots led after one quarter, 15-11, and held their lead until midway through the second quarter when F-F’s run took hold.
While the Braves had a comfortable lead for most of the second half — F-F’s biggest lead came early on in the fourth quarter at 55-38 — the Patriots did manage to make it interesting in the final minutes. A driving layup from B-P’s Ben Bellandi with just under a minute to go cut the Braves’ lead to just five points, capping the Patriots’ 10-0 run.
But the Patriots never were able to pull any closer, thanks to the steady shooting hands of Ladd and Parslow. The duo combined to hit 5-of-6 free throws during the final minute, icing the victory for the Braves.
