BROADALBIN -- A few years back, Anna Smith was pretty much forced onto the track and field team at Broadalbin-Perth.
"I didn't really do it because I wanted to," she says. "I did it for social reasons."
After her friends joined the B-P modified team when Smith was in seventh grade -- "They were all doing it and I was just chilling at my house," she says -- Smith went out for the team the next year.
One problem: In general, track and field requires a good deal of ...

FONDA -- Just as the championship game of the inaugural Ronald D. Papierniak Memorial Softball Tournament came down to the final play a year ago between the host Fonda-Fultonville Lady Braves and the Amsterdam Lady Rams, so did Saturday's final of the tournament's second year.
Again, in dramatic fashion, the Lady Braves took home the championship on a day in which the near-constant rain did not dampen the event's spirit. F-F stayed undefeated in its tournament, ...

BROADALBIN -- Anthony Visco slumped behind the backstop, red-faced from baking in the late afternoon sun, barely looking up -- and he wasn't alone.
Monday was a Murphy's law kind of day for Visco and the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots, when anything that could go wrong eventually did go wrong. All of the available good fortune and baseball karma had found its way to Johnstown pitcher Joe Nellis who, less than a week after being taken to the emergency room after fallin ...

BROADALBIN -- From the outset, it was clear that the experience of last Friday's softball game against perennial Section II power South Glens Falls was going to be more beneficial to the Broadalbin-Perth Lady Patriots than the result on the scoreboard.
"When you get into games like this, you need to learn from what you see from the other teams," B-P head coach Harrie Washburn said.

BROADALBIN -- For the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots, it's all about Lucky Number Seven.
Seven is the magic number for B-P, the number of Foothills Council wins needed for the team to qualify for the Section II Class B baseball playoffs. Through their first six Foothills Council games, the Patriots sit at 3-3 -- and 5-4 overall -- but since wins like Monday's over Class A South Glens Falls count as two for Class B teams such as B-P, the Patriots' league win total in t ...
