MAYFIELD — The Mayfield Historical Society held its annual Summer Band Concert and Ice Cream Social Thursday at the historic Rice Homestead Museum before one of its largest crowds.

Homemade cake, ice cream, lemonade and iced tea were served while the band — The Saints Jazz Quintet Plus One — played easy-listening swing, Dixieland, and standard ballads.

Proceeds benefit the restoration and upkeep of the 1790 home owned by American Revolution soldier Oliver Rice, who served under Gen. George Washington.

Tours of the Riceville Homestead are given Wednesdays and Saturdays through Sept. 4 and also by appointment by calling 661-5085 or 661-5576.
