OPPENHEIM - Snowy road conditions caused the driver of a car to lose control and strike a Mayfield Central School bus Tuesday afternoon. No injuries were reported
According to the New York State Police, shortly after 3:30 p.m, a car driven by Robert Gregory of Clifton Park was eastbound on State Highway 29 in the town of Oppenheim when it fishtailed and slid into the path of bus, driven by Vicki Mullins. Gregory’s vehicle struck the front driver’s side tire of the bus, causing the tire to blow. The car was forced into the ditch.
According to Mayfield Central School Superintendent Paul Williamsen, all eight students, a coach and bus driver were evaluated by an EMT at the scene, and parents were notified. Another bus was dispatched to pick up the students.
The students were a part of the Masterminds academic team enroute to a match in Dolgeville with teacher/coach Jon Caraco.
Troopers reported the car was able to drive away from the accident, as was the bus following the tire change.
Gregory was not ticketed, although police said he was driving too fast for the conditions.
