MAYFIELD — A structure fire Monday night at 38 Second Ave. sent a young couple out into the cold.
According to Mayfield Fire Chief Chris Mraz, the first responders on the scene from the Mayfield Fire Department reported to the call just after 11:30 p.m., finding the occupants Jenna Yanno and Matt Harrington exiting the home along with their dog.
An investigation team determined the fire apparently started on the front porch, spread to the ceiling, and was headed to the main house. Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire, salvaging the structure, although leaving substantial heat and smoke damage.
The home is owned by Mark and Kristin Warner, who just recently rented it.
“I couldn’t believe how quickly the Mayfield Fire Department was here, and had everything under control” Kristin Warner said.
She mentioned how one of the fire fighters managed to come out carrying a pet turtle, which survived unscathed, although situated very close to the fire’s source in the home.
“The fire department is fully responsible for saving this house,” said Warner.
Mraz said it is likely the fire cause will remain undetermined. The Northville Fire Department was on stand-by during the fire.
